All-women task force to curb crime against women on university campuses
In pursuance to the order of the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Delhi University (DU) has constituted an all-women task force to ensure campus safety for women students and staff members. One wonders whether such measures can actually curb the violence against women.

The task force will be responsible for gender sensitization programmes and overall security for women on the campus and check the crimes against them. A meeting with Delhi Police to discuss ways to step up security in and around campus has already been organized.Recently, the university officials met with Delhi Police to discuss ways to step up security in and around campus. One of the suggestions that came up in the meeting was to involve National Cadet Corps (NSS) and National Service Scheme (NSS) students along with the police force to curb the crime against women students and staff.
But, many are wondering how a social and attitudinal problem can be tackled with administrative solutions and structures. It has raised the following questions.
Have institutional campuses turned into hot crime spots?Has our education system become a problem itself and a crime breeding ground?
Is our educational system churning out irrational students?
Should we hand over our institutions to police for administration?
