Consume whole eggs to improve your health. Whole eggs are one of the most nutrient dense foods. They are low in calories and loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamins and minerals.
Whole eggs are high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation and are important for brain development.
Whole eggs are a source of protein. Each whole egg contains about seventy-five calories, six grams of protein and two grams of saturated fat. Six grams of protein in only seventy-five calories is ideal for those attempting to lose fat and gain muscle.
Whole eggs are a natural food source of vitamin D. Vitamin D has numerous functions involving bone health, immune system regulation and control of inflammatory chemicals.
In the past, whole eggs were vilified as unhealthy. These well-intended but incorrect statements lead many to avoid eating whole eggs. The erroneous theory was that eating whole eggs, which contain cholesterol, raises serum cholesterol levels and increases risk of cardiovascular disease. This belief is the exact opposite of the truth.
Studies reveal that it is not the consumption of cholesterol containing foods that increase serum cholesterol levels. Foods high in saturated fats and Trans fats are the chief dietary sources of high serum cholesterol.
A small minority of people are cholesterol sensitive, meaning their serum cholesterol level rises when they consume cholesterol containing foods. The large majority of individuals have a normal cholesterol metabolism, meaning dietary cholesterol does not negatively affect their blood cholesterol levels.
Cholesterol is produced in the liver regardless of whether or not it?s consumed in foods. The body self-regulates its internal production of cholesterol in response to the consumption of dietary cholesterol. If you consume small amounts of dietary cholesterol, your body produces more cholesterol. If you consume large amounts of dietary cholesterol, your body responses by manufacturing less cholesterol.
The American Heart Association no longer considers eggs to be a cholesterol raising food. This new categorization helps to remove the negative stigma placed on whole eggs.
Consume the entire egg. Do not throw away the yolk. The yolk is the healthiest section.
It is my professional opinion that whole eggs should be classified as a superfood. Eat whole eggs on a regular basis to improve your health. Whole eggs are low in calories and packed with nutrients. Include whole eggs in your dietary strategies to live a healthier, fitter, more functional life.
