BEIJING ? A raft of German films will make a splash at the 14th?Shanghai International Film Festival starting June 11, with two world premieres in competition, two special presentations, nine titles in a Focus Germany feature and three films in the nine-day event?s Spectrum/Panorama section.
In competition from two young directors are Alive And Ticking by Andr? Rogenhagen and The Good Neighbour by Stephen Rick.
Director Wim Wenders' first 3D film, Pina, about the life and moves of choreographer Pina Bausch, and a restored version of the late Fritz Lang?s classic 1927 expressionist film Metropolis will be screened as a part of the SIFF?s Official Selection.
Pina was highly acclaimed at this year?s Berlinale and since has become one of the strongest German films at the international box office.
Opening the festival?s Focus Germany on Sunday, June 12, after a cocktail reception at the German Consulate and a press conference, will be the Gala Premiere of romcom road movie Vincent Wants to Sea by Ralf Huttner, a film that?s sold more than one million tickets in Germany and won Best Film at the German Film Awards in April.
Actor and German shooting star Alexander Fehling will be on hand for Focus Germany?s presentation of director Philipp Stolzl?s Goethe! in which he stars as the young poet Wolfgang von Goethe.?
Focus Germany also will present culture clash comedy Almanya by Yasmin Samderelli, winner of a the runner-up prize at the German Film Awards this year; Blessed Events by Isabelle Stever; the big budget Henri of Navarre and the cross-cultural comedy Luks Luck by Ayse Polat.
Also on the Focus Germany bill are Fatih Akin's culinary comedy Soul Kitchen, winner of a special jury prize at the Venice International Film Festival; the tragicomedy Suicide Club by Olaf Saumer and Transit by debut director Philipp Leinemann.
In the SIFF?s Spectrum section under Panorama the following films will be shown: Before Tomorrow by Joachim Sch?nfeld, Rock It! By Joachim Masannek and The Poll Diaries by Chris Kraus, whose Four Minutes won the Golden Cup at the SIFF?s 9th?edition.
