The Cincinnati Bengals are ditching paper and three-ring binders in favor of Apple's iPads for playbooks this season.
The Cincinnati Bengals?
are going high-tech by putting their playbooks and other information on Apple Inc.?s? iPads for all of the players and coaches. The Bengals bought about 110 iPads to replace the old three-ring binders, team officials said Thursday. They join about a dozen NFL teams to make that shift. Most of those have taken place this season; just two teams experimented with digital playbooks last season.
The digital system allows players to watch video in addition to studying plays, Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said. It also includes other learning tools.
The technology should improve the way coaches coach and players learn by enhancing game plan communication, strategy and techniques.
The Bengals partnered with Colorado-based startup company PlayerLync to develop the playbook and video application. It also collaborated with Hebron-based information technology services provider Pomeroy and Northern Kentucky University?
.Security is a key factor for NFL teams? playbooks and other information. The system is set up to ?rigorously protect? the Bengals? proprietary content, Brennan said.
The Bengals, coming off a playoff appearance last season, begin training camp next month.
