- Professor Kameshwar Poolla of UC Berkeley for work on improving control and efficiency of smart grid electrical distribution systems.
- Professor Elton Cairns of UC Berkeley for improvements to high-energy lithium/sulfur batteries.
- Professor Roger Howe of Stanford for studies of solid-state devices that covert heat directly into electricity.
