BlackBerry PlayBook: The Perfect Business Travel Companion ...

Blackberry Playbook TabletThe Tablet PC burst on the scene and was an immediate success because of its capability to do what traditional PCs did, while offering the maximum portability ever offered in a mobile computer. So we all rushed out and purchased one, and playing games on the subway, checking emails in a snap while out and about, or surfing the web just about anywhere is really neat.

But a lot of us really need to be able to do a lot more when we are on business road trips or flying cross country for a presentation, and we need to have something we can whip out in a hurry that doesn?t require us booting up our bulky laptop and waiting for it to lead. But can a tablet step up and handle heavy business-specific tasks? Well, I recently found out that at least one tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook, can handle all my business needs on a hectic business trip better than I ever dreamed.

I have had the PlayBook for about a month, but until recently hadn?t really had a chance to push it to its business-minded limits. Oh sure, I have used it at home on the couch, at the office, when I was stuck in a waiting room, and a dozen other places. But I hadn?t really needed to rely on it as my sole business contact and data handler. I always knew I could access what I needed on my BlackBerry smartphone or laptop. So I was excited for more reasons than one when I found out I would have to take off for Seattle for a whole week for my job. PlayBook, get ready.

One thing I have found as an extensive traveler is that though airports and other places advertise ?Free Wifi? it is very hard to find a good connection and stay hooked up. And issues like that don?t enter most people?s minds who don?t travel a lot, but we are far from a totally wired planet, I can tell you that. But that was never an issue with my PlayBook. I just synced it wirelessly to my BlackBerry phone and accessed the BlackBerry Bridge that links both devices with Bluetooth.

No Wifi? No problem, I can access email, my contact list, notes, files, messages on my phone and my phone?s web browser, all on my PlayBook tablet! And when I was stuck on a 4 hour flight and couldn?t get a Wifi signal, I sent my favorite games and a couple of movies from my phone to my PlayBook, and had plenty of entertainment for the trip. The Bridge Browser really makes the PlayBook a totally accessible device that you can rely on to handle business transactions, relay notes and files in real time, and make last minute changes (I am an editor) that you can instantly send back to your office through the enterprise-minded BlackBerry Bridge system.

And being able to do heavy browsing, emailing, keyboarding, data editing and motion picture viewing for 8 straight hours is a godsend if you need to stay in touch constantly like I do. RIM, you did a good job with the PlayBook. If you are a constant traveler, or often find yourself out of touch with the office when you need them, think about the BlackBerry PlayBook the perfect travelling companion. I do.

Another advantage is the PlayBook?s battery life.? The tablet is good for about eight hours of use and during my four day trip I only had to charge it once.

Well done BlackBerry, the Bridge was a genius concept and definitely helped to make my trip a success. I know there are applications out there that sync tablets to other devices, but I wonder if it will become the standard for smartphones and tablets using the same operating systems to be able to sync effortlessly like the BlackBerry Bridge.
