The challenge: taking more than 1,000 players and sorting them onto 32 rosters, working out contracts that must be signed and then processed by the league office, with every deal from rookies to free agents fitting under the salary cap and falling within the other boundaries of the new, still-being-understood labor agreement _ and, getting all this done in time for the start of the preseason, preferably by the start of training camp. (AP) ? The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed linebacker LaMarr Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract that runs through the 2016 season.

The deal was announced by the Steelers on Friday.

The new contract replaces a one-year, $10 million deal agreed to in February when the Steelers placed the franchise player tag on Woodley.

Earlier Friday, Woodley posted the news on Twitter, saying "Wanted u 2 hear it here 1st-drafted here... super bowl here.. will retire here!!"

Woodley earned $550,000 in the final season of his rookie contract and has played four seasons with the Steelers. He was drafted in the second round from Michigan.

Woodley has started 47 regular-season games in his first four seasons, and has 39 career sacks.
