Summer sports kicked off on a beautiful morning this past Saturday. Over a thousand children ranging in age from 3 to 12 started summer sports at numerous parks throughout Arlington.
?We realize it gets hot in the summer but this is a great way to keep children active and away from the television or computers?, stated Wendy Parker, Athletics Program Manager for the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department.
Over the last two years participation in the youth baseball leagues has increased.? Parker credits part of the success to the Texas Rangers making it to the last two World Series.? ?The Rangers have been a great marketing tool for the game of baseball. We are hoping for another trip to the World Series!? added Parker.
Summer athletic programs will run through July and fall registration begins on August 1.? Participants will have a full slate of sports to choose from including include baseball, soccer, kickball and basketball.? The fall season will begin in September.
