Union Station Bomb Scare Linked to Briefcase

A suspicious package at Union Station on Thursday afternoon led to an evacuation and the total shut down of rail and bus lines at the downtown transportation hub.

The package was discovered around 2:30 p.m. on the Metro Red Line subway platform in downtown Los Angeles.

"The sheriff's bomb squad is on scene ? working to get Union Station returned to normal," said sheriff's department Capt. Mike Parker.

Around 3:40 p.m., the all clear was given, said Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson.

The suspicious package was later identified as a briefcase, which contained photographic equipment.

The station had been?evacuated, and all Metrolink and Amtrak trains were temporarily stopped from entering or leaving the station, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The Patsaouras Transit Plaza was also closed to all bus service during the incident.
