Billiards, considered as one of the popular sports event in the country will be
added as another event in the upcoming 16th PSC-University Games (UniGames) slated on October 22 to 29 in Roxas City, Capiz.
This was disclosed recently by UniGames president Roger A. Banzuela saying the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) under Negrense Chairman Ritchie Garcia wanted the event to be added.
UniGames had in its calendar 14 events like athletics, badminton, swimming, volleyball, basketball, chess, lawn tennis, table tennis, taekwondo, sepak takraw, football,
softball and beach volleyball.
The PSC reportedly will finance the officiating in the aim of standardizing it in any tournament under their supervision. The PSC has always been tapped for funding assistance in holding sports competition like the UniGames.
UniGames technical officials are conducting another ocular inspection of the venues in Capiz on September 2.
Capiz Gov. Victor A. Tanco and Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino have pledged support to the hosting of this tertiary sports competition for both private and public colleges and universities in the country where about or more than 50 schools are expected to participate.
The hosting of this event is the first in Capiz and is expected to boost their revenue as the ?Seafood Capital of the Philippines.?
Banzuela, said this tertiary sports competition is a tie-up activity with Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion headed by Monsignor Vicente Hilata as the lead host in cooperation with the Filamer Christian University, Hercor College and St. John La Salle-Roxas.
Among the 14 sports disciplines, Banzuela is expecting
a huge turnout of schools in football as a result of popularity of the event brought about by the PHL Football Team, the Azkals. Some schools are rejoining the competition by forming a football team that includes the host school CPC.
He added, the deadline of those schools wish confirmation to join the competition is on August 19.
Last year event was hosted by Silliman University in Negros Oriental and draws about 50 schools that participate.
Banzuela claimed, he is expecting many schools to join especially the of UAAP and NCAA member-schools as their sports competitions already ended in time of the UniGames and those schools that boycotted the last national PRISAA held in Zamboanga City last April.
