Stussy/Marvel Project Coming to Meltdown Comics

On April 27, Stussy will unveil its first of two collections of graphic tees featuring Marvel characters in a project called Stussy x Marvel. The second collection comes out May 6 and will see nine artists -- ranging from East L.A. tattoo artists Mr. Cartoon to graffiti artists Todd James to animator John Kricfalusi -- reinterpret Marvel characters in their own inimitable style.

But before that, on the night of April 26, the line will have a sneak peak New York art scene style party and one night-only sale at Meltdown Comics on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The gallery section of the story will be converted into a superhero-themed newstand kiosk, the bar will be Marvel-themed, sketches and art from the tees will line the walls, and the Koji food truck will be out back. The event is private from 7 to 9 p.m., then opens to the public from 9 to 11 p.m.

(After that, if you want the tees, you're going to have to find a Stussy store or order online.)

Stussy and Meltdown are also co-sponsoring superhero movie nights at Cinefamily's Silent Movie Theatre on Fairfax. The night Stussy co-sponsors will feature a Marvel mash-up of "web-slingingest, shield-flingingest, ankle-wingingest clips from all of Earth's Mightiest Mortals' film and television appearances." That event runs May 27 to May 1.

Stussy just released this short animated video for their line, with animation from Morgan Kelly, an animator from DWA, and direction by Adam Jay Weissman.
