New Community Opens For Huntsville's Active Adults | WHNT.com ...

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) ? Huntsville has a new community for adults 55 and older.?

The Commons hosted a ribbon cutting and open house on Monday at its campus off of Vermont Road in south Huntsville.

The brand new community was started by the same family who operates Cottage Family Living.? Owners say The Commons is not your typical retirement community, but is designed for people over 55 who want to continue an active lifestyle without worrying about home upkeep.

?The next 20 years are going to be the healthiest 20 years that people over the age of 55 have, so why not create a community for folks who are going to be healthy and want to make choices about the way they want to live,? said Dawn White Pumpelly, co-owner.

By 2015, 35 percent of Madison County?s population will be made up of adults age 55 and older.? Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle attended the open house, and says The Commons fills a need for quality senior living in the Huntsville area.
